Botnia Ventures Oy Ab is a Finnish company operating as a registered alternative investment fund manager (AIFM) under the supervision of the Finnish Financial Supervisory Authority.

The company acts as the manager of Botnia Ventures Fund I Ky. Botnia Ventures Oy Ab is active investor and also carries out other development activities in cooperation with public and private stakeholders.

A New Approach to Public–Private Cooperation

Botnia Ventures Oy Ab brings together startups, local entrepreneurs, public actors and private investors through a structured public–private cooperation model.

We work in close cooperation with universities, educational institutions and regional development organizations to support early-stage company identification and development. We facilitate the Next Level Growth initiatiative and NLG Challenge together with Ostrobothnia Chamber of Commerce, VASEK, Vaasa University, Hanken and VES.

Our network is supported by experienced entrepreneurs, investors and industry experts from the region and beyond.

Active Investor Acting as a Partner and Co-Funder

Botnia Ventures operates a structured support model for the startups: Venture Studio. We act as a co-founder, partner and early-stage investor in selected startups.

The venture studio supports company formation and early growth through structured company development, access to an extended advisory network and phased development aligned with long-term value creation.

Funding rounds may be facilitated through Botnia Ventures Fund I Ky and, where appropriate, through other public and private capital sources.

  • The fund invests in start-ups, spin-offs and growth companies with connection to Ostrobothnia or Central Ostrobothnia and with potential positive regional economic impact.
  • Typical first investment to the companies is 20k€ – 150k€.
  • Investment period is 5 years. Exit target 5-8 years.
  • Investors are from public sector: Cities, Municipalities, Universities, Public Funds or from Private investors: Local Companies, Insurance Companies, Private Funds, Wealthy Private Individuals. Target is to have about 45% public investors, 35% institutional and corporate investors and 20% private investors.
  • Legal form is Limited partnership (=Ky) owned by the investors. Investors are Limited Partners. General Partners is a limited company BVF Oy owned by Botnia Ventures Oy Ab

The fund is intended for professional investors and a limited group of non-professional investors who, upon request, are treated as professional clients in accordance with applicable legislation. The fund is not a consumer product.
